12 New Sea Tow Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Stations Open in Charleston & Savannah, Enhancing Boater Safety, Thanks to $7,664 Donation from Southern Eagle and Anheuser-Busch

"The Sea Tow Foundation appreciates the generous donation from Southern Eagle and Anheuser-Busch that will make 348 life jackets available to boaters on 12 life jacket loaner stands in the Charleston and Savannah areas,” said Gail R. Kulp, C.A.E, Sea Tow Foundation executive director.

Six Charleston-area Sea Tow Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Stations officially opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Wednesday, August 27, at Red’s Ice House in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. These loaner stand locations include:

  • Red’s Ice House on Historic Shem Creek (98 Church St., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464)
  • RiversEdge Marina (4354 Bridge View Dr., North Charleston, SC 29405)
  • Charleston Co. Parks & Recreation (510 Mill St., Charleston, SC 29464)
  • Red’s Ice House at Bohicket Marina (1882 Andell Bluff Blvd., Seabrook Island, SC 29455)
  • Morgan Creek Grill (80 41st Ave., Isle of Palms, SC 29451)
  • Shem Creek Marina (526 Mill St. Charleston, SC 29464).

The six Savannah-area Sea Tow Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Stations officially opened on Thursday, August 28, at Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony held at Isle of Hope Marina. These new loaner stands can be found at the following locations:

  • Isle of Hope Marina (50 Bluff Dr., Savannah, GA 31406)
  • Hilton Head Harbor Marina (43A Jenkins Rd., Hilton Head Island, SC 29926)
  • Ft McAllister Marina (3203 Fort McAllister Rd., Richmond Hill, GA 31324)
  • Shellman Fish Camp (1058 River Rd., Townsend, GA 31331)
  • Morningstar Marina (206 Marina Dr., St. Simons Island, GA 31522)
  • St. Simons Island Marina (1000 Arthur J Moore Dr., St. Simons Island, GA 31522).

“These new Sea Tow Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Stations will help to further the Foundation’s ongoing mission of helping to make boating safer and more enjoyable by encouraging boaters to wear life jackets while on the water,” said Capt. About Southern Eagle
Southern Eagle was founded by the Fitzgerald Ice Company in 1907 by John Henry Dorminy, Sr. During this time, it was common for ice houses to distribute beer because all beer was draught and required cooling. For the first 43 years, Fitzgerald Ice Company operated as a sole proprietor by John Henry Dorminy. By 1956 the business had continued growth adding one truck and relocating from a wooden-floor warehouse to a new, updated warehouse on Grant Street. In 1970, his two sons where heading up the business, John Henry Dorminy, Jr. and William J. Dorminy (Jim) and two other employees had joined their team plus a fleet of two eight-bay delivery trucks. Sales at this time had grown to 75,000 cases per year. 

Today, sales have increased to 14 million cases and the Company is located on the Ocilla Highway in Fitzgerald. With the grandson of the founder, William J. Dorminy, Jr. (Will) leading the charge, distributorships and territories have been acquired including Vidalia, Savannah, Blackshear and Brunswick. In 2012, Southern Eagle acquired Pearlstine Distributors with headquarters in Charleston and Ridgeland.
