Love on the Water

While many of our Sea Tow captains have differing backgrounds, hobbies and experience levels, there’s one thing that just about every single one can say they share – a true, deep-seeded love for the water. Nowhere is that more evident than at Sea Tow Sebastian, where owners John and Amy Donaldson have been spending their days on the water together for years.

In fact, the husband-and-wife team first met on the water, got engaged underwater and spends nearly every single day sharing that passion for the water that drives them to help local boaters whenever they need a hand.

They met in 2003 while working on a parasailing boat, got married in 2007 and have been inseparable ever since, both at home and on the job. Both have master licenses which allows them to work together as Sea Tow captains – a job they shared for almost six years before finally buying their Sebastian franchise a little over a year ago.

“We’re privileged to not only work together, but to work together doing something we love,” John said. “Servicing Sea Tow members allows us to help people enjoy boating and at the same time, connect with a network of people who share the same passion.”

Even when they’re not out on the water, the duo makes the perfect team. In her free time, Amy shows horses, and John is always by her side.

“He’s the perfect horse show husband,” Amy said. “Really, he’s the only horse show husband. He’s always cooking on the grill and getting along with everyone else. It’s really great to be able to share the same hobbies and spend so much time by each other’s side.”

Even in their free time, the family bleeds Sea Tow yellow. Recently, their 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter had a “Favorite Team” day at school, where students were encouraged to wear their favorite team’s uniforms. The Donaldson kids showed up to school that day wearing Sea Tow shirts.

“It’s definitely a lifestyle,” Amy said. “It’s not like a regular job where you can just go home and forget about it. We’re on call 24/7/365, so it’s obviously a huge part of our lives.”

“The two of us have been around the water our entire lives,” she said. “We met on the water. John proposed under water on a diving trip. It’s the perfect job for us. Being able to share that love for one each other and what we do is incredible. We wouldn’t have it any other way.”
